I'm flying to New York next week (woo hoo!) and have read all the latest hand luggage restrictions. However it is unclear whether you are allowed to buy a bottle of water after you have gone through security and take this on the plane. Anyone know if this is possible?

If you buy it after security the answer is yes, but you can't take it through security.

From the BAA website http://www.baa.com/

Can I buy water and food in the departure lounge to take on board the flight?
Yes. You can take water on board all flights, including flights to the USA.
they almost invariably hand out bottles of water on transatlantic flights these days; it's supposed to help ward off DVT, I think.

Thanks for that folks. I know they bring drinks round but it's a long flight and I do get thirsty.
the water is in addition to the usual drinkies; you can pop the bottle into the back of the seat in front and take it with you when you leave if you want.
i too am checking this out atm as i am flying to the States on Friday.
