I heard that a tourist gets mugged every 47 minutes on the streets of Prague.
However, he's getting so fed up with it that he's going home.
I've just come back from 5 days in Prague and felt perfectly safe. I stayed in the Old Town, where the main concern is avoiding drunken tourists rather than muggers. It is true that Prague does suffer from a much-publicised pick-pocketing problem. But, as Einstein says, this can happen anywhere. I never saw an incident of any sort. Just use common sense when out and about.
The Foreign Office advice says that petty theft is on the increase in Prague, so be careful! http://www.fco.gov.uk/servlet/Front?pagename=OpenM
