yup, euros - the Canaries are part of Spain. (But although they are in the EU I think you can still buy duty-frees.)

jno - They are a European Special Zone. Taxes on booze and fags are less than mainland Spain, so old duty free limits apply - 200 Cigs, 1 Litre spirits etc, even to mainland Spain.
I'd advise buying in the Canaries rather than the airport though - they're cheaper.

not sure - been considering that for a while myself. Or maybe just declare independence from UK - just my house would do. Remove all import/export taxes. Get everything in tax free. Lovely.
