Evening Abers. Going to the Gran Canaria next week. Just wondering what is the best way to go about getting the foreign currency. Would it be best to get them from the cashpoint over there or get them here in the UK.

Provided you take out a reasonably large amount at a time, the cashpoint over there will be cheaper. Most debit cards charge you 1.5% but with a minimum charge of 1.50 or 2. They also charge 2.75% exchange loading.

If you get it here you will be paying 5% or so to buy cash (buried in the exchange rate so you can't see it)
I'd take Sterling travellers cheques. In my experience of the Canaries (admittedly Tenerife, not Gran Canaria) you can get the same rate as cash and no commission on the high street over there. Both rates are better than over here, and cheaper than using ATMs.
