I heard about some strange tunnels under Liverpool on Radio 4 this morning, but was unable to catch the name of the eccentric character who built them and under which part of the city they run.

Can anyone direct me to a site that gives more information about this baffling, yet interesting construction?

I'd never heard of this chap before and thank you both for your answers.

This is absolutely fascinating. Thank you. I was brought up in Liverpool, went to school and worked there and knew NOTHING of all this. The website is now in my favourites.

ab has done its job!

You've put a big smile on my face, RogK. Thank you!!

i have been down them.

they are curious but not as you probably imagine. essentially the are muddy cellar type long rooms, and there i sonly about 6 of them at about 30ft -40ft each as they haven't excavated that much yet. the story behind is much more interesting than the tunnels themselves
