Where shall I go in Germany?

I'm currently in Germany on my Year Abroad from University in the UK. I'm working as a language assistant at a school in Nordhausen in Thuringen. I will be Germany until the end of May and go travelling most weekends, from Thursday afternoon until Sunday evening

Any ideas of places I can go to?

I've already been to Gera, Gottingen, Ilmenau, popped to Prague, and this weekend I'm going to Berlin. Might as well make the most of the cheap trains!

You've got the Harz mountains just to the north of you - a nice day trip is to the top of the Brocken by steam train and there is plenty more in the area to pad it out to a weekend.

It must be 20 years since I was there but I was very fond of Aachen.

I live down in Munich and I have to say that I absolutely adore living down here. Bavaria is somewhat different to other parts of Germany and I rather like that. However, we've had snow for the past week so it's a tad chilly at the moment! ;)

Munich itself, plus Schloss Neuschwanstein and Kehlsteinhaus to the south in Bavaria are beautiful places to go. The Alps look great at this time of year!

You should try to visit one of the larger Christmas markets in the next few weeks - Dresden is not that far from you and has a good one. The Elbe valley nearby is also worth a visit.

Also Lake Constance (Bodensee) handy for Switzerland,Austria & France. See the Rhine Falls.

Hamburg has a lot of attractions!
