You need to be in the right area and then you need to find one of the 7% of ATMs that issue fivers:

You'd also need to pay by cash at a self-service till and who does that nowadays? I certainly don't. I just keep moaning to the Asda staff that it's about time that their machines accepted contactless payment, as they do in Morrison's, rather than me having to enter my PIN every time I go in.

Chico....whenever I use ASDA or TEShttp://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-eu-referendum-35616946CO, which is rare these days, they still don't use contactless method.

Many millions must be used in the automatic tills every day in Britain and I was just wondering if they had been adjusted to accept this new fiver.
who does that nowadays? Customers :0
As they reckon that it's costing £236m to adapt all of the ATMs, vending machines and self-service checkouts, it's to be hoped that they've got it right!

However even the old paper fivers weren't without their problems when they were first issued:

Here is what I looked at last week.

May be of interest.
Last time I tried one (Clydesdale Bank) in Tesco the machine didn't like it!

Quite often the Tesco employee can be seen changing customers notes (any bank - we have 3, 4 if you include English money, and different denominations) - I think it depends on the condition of the note if the machine likes it or not!
Our Tesco now have contactless readers.
Great link Tremendous, enjoyed watching that. It does seem a big improvement on the old note.
Chris...my OH always has cash. It's rare he'd have less the £100 in his wallet.

My son got hold of one of fivers. I don't know if it was a real one or a test version. He ripped it but he said he had to use his teeth....
Just asked my son....the fiver he had was Romanian.
I use both cash and card when shopping and I've used plastic notes in several countries around the world. I imagine ageing machines will gradually be replaced with new designs that can cope with both plastic and paper.
