Irresponsible Dog Owner

On Sunday afternoon I went out riding with a friend. We were having a great time until we encountered a woman with two rat-like yappy little dogs and they were not on leashes. Both horses were spooked by the damn things running around their legs, and my horse threw me
All she could say was "they are only puppies and I want them to get used to horses." I ask you!
I didn't reply to her or speak to her as I was totally winded and she scuttled off before I got my breath back.
Oh, and by the way, I now have a broken pelvis!

Our horses are used to dogs but I find the best thing to say in a very loud voice, if you see a person approaching with a dog, is ' Watch out my horse will kick your dog he's done it before'. It usually works. Non horsey people rarely realise horses are not bicycles and the rider can never have 100% control. Maybe you needed to get your strength up after your recent very serious illness and operation, before resuming horse riding. PS -your horse did not throw you, you had an emergency dismount. ;-)

when I misfooted and fell over in the street in daylight and no I was not drunk a mother pulled her pram over me...
but at least she hadnt kicked me to the ground in the first place

and if you look at CCTV of Lee Rigby's murder you will see people pulling their shopping or prams by, on the LHS of the picture ....

There was no CCTV - it was a country lane.
My friend took the horses back home & sent her husband to collect me in his car.

I have a fairly high pain threshold but take it from me, a broken pelvis really, really hurts

well I guess Mrs O was riding in the country, not down the middle of Whitby main street in Goth Week so little chance of CCTV . So Mrs O -did you get a ride in the Air Ambulance? Will we perhaps see you on the TV?

In India in the 1920s my grandfathers two terriers used to play by jumping under his horse whilst it trotted ( missing the hooves ) .

mrs O - sorry but this is getting silly. IF you had a broken pelvis you would not be able to walk you would be in hospital (maybe you are). Are you seriously saying your friend took both horses home and left you alone in a country lane with a broken pelvis to get her husband? Did you not have mobile phones to call an ambulance? Seriously?

Retro, I have a fracture on the left side of my pelvis.
It is not severe enough to warrant a plaster cast.
I have been given crutches with instruction not to put any weight on my left leg

Whitby has mobile signals off the main street -its not the moon.....There are procedures to follow concerning accidents with horses and no one leaves a patient with a potentially very serious fracture alone on a country lane while they take two horses home. I'm reflecting on the OP's previous Question and taking leave of this thread.

I reckon in the circumstances presented the people on the spot did what they could.
Someone in the locality will know who the terrible terrier owner is though. Me, I'd hunt them down and sue the beggars.

Is it wise to ride a horse that can be spooked easily on public land? I witnessed the aftermath of an accident in the New Forest where a horse had been spooked and ran in front of a car. Result..dead horse and rider with a broken leg. Oh and a traumatised driver and passsenger..
