I noticed some in a local shop. I've no artistic talent so would it be OK to start with a child's version and work my way up to the more complex adult versions ?

Of course....why not?
Remember to keep within the lines!!
Do, sandy, and post some of your efforts on here.
Of course Sandy. Maybe one day you'll be a Mattisse or a Monet. xx
Sandy, get an adult one. They are not more difficult, they are more detailed and take longer to colour in.
I think you'd be rather bored with a child's one. Go straight for the adults one.
I don't think colouring -in books have anything to do with art, just a way of keeping kids quiet, 'til they start demanding Xboxes.
The Johanna Basford ones are excellent. So much fine detail. They are enchanting.
Just go for an adults book, the ones I've had tend to have a range of designs from fairly simple to very detailed so you can choose one to suit your mood. There are so many about now and most are themed so you should find one that interests you.

I've awarded Sharon best answer because it seems to me to be most apposite. Though I like to think I've always known where to draw the line. :-)
yes, it's all about subtle indoctrination fo chldren to keep within the lines. The growth in hooliganism today is directly related to the decline in supply of colouring books; but maybe the introduction of books for adults will rehabilitate some of them before it's too late.
Thanks Sandy!!!
I just paid £6.99 for an adult christmas one - outrageous
First thing I did was photocopy it for the precious babe to do too
I might even photocopy the photocopy

Can you tell I'm from Yorkshire?
It used to be said of Ronald Reagan that he only owned two books and he hadn't finished colouring in one of them.
Sandy - a colouring book is a colouring book - go for the adult one. I think you would be pretty bored colouring in a simple picture of Thomas the Tank Engine.

Ric.Ror - can you send me some photocopies of your photocopies please? (I too am from Yorkshire)
Mmmmm ................. "Adult" colouring-in books?

Sounds a bit porny to me, Sandy ........... be advised ;o)
Go for it .I have quite a lot of these books and find it very relaxing to do.
Get yourself a selection of good pencils .
Amazon have loads to choose from and The Works have some nice ones too. I like the art deco stuff, fashions and flowers.
Here's one I did earlier :)

Tsk tsk Le Builder -what a smutty mind!

BTW unless you buy an oven you may lose your place as first reserve husband. A romantic night in with a good wine and a microwave ready meal doesn't sound quite right
Madame Eau ................... I did say it was a combination oven .......... with a fan assisted bit.

I can do a mean Boeuf Wellington in that machine. A nice red burgundy, and we're set ;o)
Ah, that's ok then. I love Beef Wellington....and Burgundy.
Your position is safe
