Have we that many police that we can afford to send them to sunny climes, in their bid to control our drunken youngsters?

Policeman aside, I genuinely don't understand Magaluf's problem. They've helped create their 'colourful' culture by offering cheap booze and tacky bars and clubs and are now bemoaning the effect on people.

It's kind of like stuffing small children with a pound of Skittles then wondering why they're bouncing of the walls with hyper activity.
yes, they can easily deter drunken Brits by putting up their prices, as B00 says.
I believe the authorities have tried this but bar-owners just ignore them.

I have no idea what the cops are doing there - acting as sort of mini-consuls, perhaps. Then they'll do it again in Ibiza. They can't even arrest people, whereas they could be doing so in Britain.

Getting a nice tan.
not if they're walking round in uniform, as in the photo.
All two of them.
I should think they're aloud to change out of uniform at some point though.
*allowed* doh.
hard to say, the photo shows them patrolling in daytime but the gist of the story is that they'll be working at night too, which is when the trouble arises. Might not be such a cushy number as it seems. But I still don't know why it's happening at all.

Still, I doubt there's any shortage of volunteers.
To be fair, I can actually see some point to it.
You'd have to be crazily hedonistic to go there for a holiday. Well, either that or very young.
They may be there to stock up with cheap fags and booze for their mates, chances of a customs search on their return is pretty remote.

Now how many holiday makers are going to be sorely tempted to knock the cop's helmet off with a flying object?

Well, I suppose since they have been so successful in cleaning up the Mean Streets of Great Britain we can afford to be magnanimous and help out some of our less skilled European friends!

(That's the way to do it!)
Can't see the point myself, the British Police tend to be "touchy feely" and the Spanish Gardia, go in with the boots and truncheon.........the latter a better approach in my opinion.
The Brits don't like it "up em" you know and as far as i know, they are only on duty between 7.am and 10 pm by which time they are either around the pool or sleeping off their hangovers. The "fun" starts after midnight and not just in Magaluf as the Brits just don't know how to behave on holiday anywhere in Spain .......generally speaking.

Waste of money, waste of time and will have no effect other that to give the two cops a holiday in the sun.

BOO makes a relevant point in her first post.
Yes, really; what's the point: they have no jurisdictional power at all. And standing alongside the armed local police they just appear to be so ineffectual.
Another question. Do British police always smile so much, or are these two just happy to be on a paid holiday?
I can't see any reason whatsoever for our Police to be working in Magaluf.

Next time you are burgled, and the local nick says that they won't be attending, ask them if they can send one of these Policemen all the way from Spain.

I have never been to Magaluf and I have not the slightest desire to do so, but my nephews tell me what it is like. If the Magaluf are now whining about drunken Brits, perhaps they shouldn't have created the problem in the first place.

excellent idea !

so that when you are burgled you can hop on a plane to a warm place and find someone to report it to as well !
