^Good question.
Totally different matters. Thorpe was charged with conspiracy to murder, not with any sexual offence. Plus there was the killing of the doggie, a far more heinous crime.
Jackdaw, thank you. I'd forgotten that, probably because the scandal of his sexuality at that time seemed to over-shadow the real issue, and clearly still does.
Thorpe was married to the Queen's cousin-in-law, the former Countess of Harewood, who had divorced her first husband, the Earl of Harewood, son of Princess Mary, Princess Royal, on the grounds of his adultery.
