I'd go northern line from Highgate to Euston, then get a preston train from there (they leave at half past every hour).

Yes Mushroom, I should have said Euston, Is it 3>>>3 1/2hrs?

first train 05h30 (3hour journey) then 07h30 and every hour thereafter (2hr25journey)

if you are coming up to Preston then before you buy a ticket look at the fare price to Lancaster instead of Preston, you might find a significant saving

I have just looked on National rail enquiries and fares to Lancaster are now dearer than to Preston, didn't used to be the case so just ignore the suggestion
