Anyone tried the "secret hotels" website or used the facility on expedia whereby you don't know what hotel you are getting until after you've booked? Were you satisfied?

We booked a holiday to Majorca. That was all we knew. The apartment we stayed in was a beautiful penthouse in Illiettes (sp), owned by someone who let it out for 6 months of the year. Maybe we were lucky. The resort was small but only a cab or bus ride away from everything you could want.
I've tried several such deals and always been satisfied.

But I have by various means found out or at least guessed the identity of the hotel in question - always correctly to date. It is more difficult than it use to be though - descriptions of the hotels have become rather less detailed therefore difficult to compare with the real details.
I've just booked one on expedia for a hotel in London in August and I got the Selfridge Hotel which is lush. I kind of knew it was that one from the description so took a chance. :)

Ooh sorry, it was on lastminute.com, not expedia!

Think expedia and lastminute are now trading names of the same company, though they were separate companies.
I too used the secret hotel for a couple of nights in London, but I worked out the identity before I paid.
used to be if you googled the description provided you could usually trace the words to the hotel's own website; but as dzug says, perhaps they're getting wise to that now.
