Hi all,

I am planning to go to Cornwall in August on my own for a few days. I have never been and I am just looking for some advice on where to stay and what to see. Or if anyone knows of any good websites for reference.

Thank you so much :)

A search in Google for "visiting Cornwall" or "Cornwall tourist" (that sort of thing) will find a number of web sites.

I did a quick search and found this one

http://www.visitcornwall.com/

p.s. Not sure how you plan to ge there but the roads going down to Cornwall get VERY crowded during August. Because the area gets narrower and narrower the further west you go all the cars get squeezed into fewer and fewer roads.

If you dont NEED to go to Cornwall then Devon or Dorset or Somerset may serve you just as well, without the need to go so far.

Thanks VHG. I don't HAVE to go to Cornwall, it was just a wee thought. Devon sounds good to me too. Thanks for the help :)
If you are going on your own what do you plan to do or see when you are there (walking, swimming, beaches, shopping, castles, historic houses or what?).

If you can give us an idea what you like we may be able to suggest a good place to base yourself.

Are you going by car, train or what?

Trip advisor is a good site to get specific informaiton about an area.

Most of the traffic problems with Cornwall are around the Friday evening until Sunday teatime period - combination of day-trippers and the weekend changeover for cottages/caravans etc etc.

I stay on Dartmoor for a couple of weeks (at least) each August and day trips to Cornwall are quick and easy during Monday - Friday.

Staying on the southern edge of Dartmoor (assuming you will have a car) gives you easy access to the Devon/Cornwall coasts as well as being a wonderful place itself.

If you like big open beaches perranporth is nice St Just in Roseland.... and the Gweek seal sanctuary
Yep...go Eden.

I went when it was fairly new....would love to go back and see how it's progressed.

I will probably go by train. I want to visit castles, historic houses, museums, shopping, nice walks etc I am a bit of a foodie so I would like to go to nice restaurants, farm shops etc

I know it's a bit vague, I was just wondering if anyone knew of any must-see's in the area.

Seal sanctuary? OMG I have to go there! I love seals :)
Vokda, it's so weird you asked that. Last night I was sitting at home mentally planning a little solo trip to Cornwall in the summer too.
Padstow, great place.

A few good reasons to attack Cornwall/Devon, Ratter, DT and Lady-Janine
(oh and Carakeel too)
vodka - do you have a dummy e-mail so I can send you mine......plenty of things to do and see depending on what you like....
St Michaels Mount, Marazion,
Tintagel
Lanhydrock, Bodmin if you like castles/houses.....

plenty of gardens from the Lost Gardens of Heligan to Trelissick and two of the south of Falmouth

Loads on the food front - from pubs to 2 stars (Nathan Outlaw at St Enedoc), though I would rate Paul Ainsworth's number 6 higher......on the south coast, the Lugger, Porthcurno, and the Atlantic Drift near Porthscatho .....loads of little places where you can get a good meal.....

Hi DT, it's [email protected] thanks so much :)

I'd love to see Padstow too...I may need longer than a few days!

EB, wee solo trips away are fab.

It doesn't have to be August. I can do September but I would like some good weather lol
