why not phone the car hire company for those local details?

you should probably have appealed whilst you were there!

It was literally the day before we flew back, all a bit rushed and it was the weekend...

Want to know what the violation was? Parking the wrong way around in a quiet suburban street! Who knew such crazy laws even existed?!

You should try New York City. They have a rule for some streets whereby it's illegal to park on one side on one day but legal or another and vice versa for the opposite side. Parking facing the wrong way would be nothing to NYC !
