Mobility scooter question

My wife is travelling with her mobility scooter for the first time by air tomorrow. At the ambulift should the ignition key be removed and the scooter put in freewheel mode to avoid the carrier accidentally leaving it switched on or loseing the key in transit.We are of course taking a spare key.TIA
