Occupy London have taken over their Fifth London site. The Police state it is a civil matter.

My questions are how do you get in a building without causing any any damage if all the doors and windows are locked .
They say they are having an open day, is it not possible that the Police or the firm that owns the building send people dressed in normal clothes in to evict them.

(( The protesters plan to open the building to the public on
23 January, which will be the 100th day since they began
the London chapter of a global movement against
"corporate greed". ))

To claim squatters rights they have to be able to walk through an open door I believe, I think the way it works is someone smashes the door open, naturally nothing to do with those wanting to occupy it, and then they can just walk through the open door and claim the door was open.
perhaps they are just cold and want somewhere to park their backsides for a few days. Many of the campers outside St Pauls have gone, perhaps it's some of them?

I just find it so strange that buildings that are locked and secure can be occupied and the Police do nothing.
Thank you for your answers
I think it's time the law was changed concerning squatters, no-one should have a right to enter a building or take over land and claim it is their home/place to sleep. I also think that the Occupy London/City people should be kicked out of their tents. It shouldn't have been allowed in the first place. If one of them left their tent overnight to sleep at home then that tent should be dismantled and removed. Dale Farm wasn't on public thoroughfare and the occupants did not desecrate church doorways with their filth and graffiti, yet they were (eventually) herded off the site. Who is taking notice of their grievance, and what purpose is this tent city serving. Only that they are a nuisance.
Thank you, rant over.
I am with you Gran. Well said.
LordSnooty, the problem is that when they took over the buildings it was already open, someone had previously smashed to lock off I expect, that's how they get away with it. These people aren't stupid, they know the law better than the rest of us.
