Hi, I am looking to work in the u.s this summer for a period of 3 months with children. But just over a year ago I was arrested for driving whilst being over the legal alcohol limit, the morning after a night out. I admitted I was an idiot, it was my first offense, I was fined and given a ban. Now I've been offered a job, but worried about my visa application. I been told, being honest gets you nowhere and the embassy have little chance of finding out about the offense? Then others say I'm better off being honest and they may give me an exemption? Which one is more likely?

Where are you from? Are you from the UK? Or maybe Canada? I'm only asking as you are spelling offense the American way, so maybe you're not in the UK.
I don't think they consider drink driving as big a deal as we do.
DUI is not moral turpitude so shouldn't debar you from a visa if you declare it.

Not sure whether you will have to tell them about it though - it depends on what the application form asks.

My husband got a visa (not a working one) with a DD ban when we were going to Florida on hols so there's hope!
have heard of new ruling that there is a blanket ban if you have a criminal record, but with driving convictions they may allow you a visa but you can not drive.
