I have been told that it costs £5.00 every day you have a blackberry switched on abroad but not sure its true - help

I don't think so. we went to Turkey and my son's Blackberry (on Vodafone) worked, but my daughter's (on Orange) didn't.

... not a flat rate £5 - that's an urban myth - but the actual cost really very much depends on your contract.

Ring your phone company and ask them.
No, that's no true, but you need check your provider's rates for sending and receiving calls and data. We are with 02 and OH is in Europe regularly, the push data charges can be quite high sometimes.
.. and don't forget to tell your provider that you are leaving the UK, as you'll need international roaming switched on on your phone.
there were tips on the Beeb this morning to minimise expenditure in foreign climes...could be on the Beeb player - things like don't download attachments, use HD functions etc
