I heard that it's free yet some sites ask for a "Processing fee" Can anyone tell me where to get it free and what criteria one must fulfil to qualify, also what are the benefits?

Everyone qualifies who wants to travel to Europe replaces the old E11 form. Easy to do so do not pay any sites.
In case you still got any doubts, I'll confirm that Euphemia has provided the correct link. (I actually got mine over the phone: 0845 606 2030).

Thanks for the quick answers, that is the original site I visited but even though it says "nhs" it looks like a poorly done website and was a bit apprehensive i giving my details to it.
Cheers, Halifaxmum!
they don't replace travel insurance - they just give you the right to the same health treatment that the locals get.

the site will give you all the info, i think.
yes
it's free
apply online here: https://www.ehic.org.uk/Internet/home.do
you must have a national insurance number
it gives you the benefits in other selected european countries that residents of that country would get regarding healthcare
it does look a bit dodgy, but it is the official site wrong
I renewed mine there recently - no problem

Would this be valid in ibiza?
Ibiza is part of Spain. Yes it would
Question Author
Thanks sandy, I did see spain as one of the countries listed but was unsure that it would be included.
Renewed all of ours over the phone today - took minutes.
i think that the canaries aren't covered, but they belong to spain
<i think that the canaries aren't covered, but they belong to spain >

The Canaries ARE covered
i thought it was only the EEA, and i didn't think the canaries were in that
thanks for the info - have just done mine
< i thought it was only the EEA, and i didn't think the canaries were in that >

I think you are confusing it with the customs 'duty free' rules where the Canaries are an anomalous case.
