I went there a number of years ago and would recommend a trip to Sirmione (where the ancient Roman poet Catullus came from).  There are Roman ruins and also medioeval cobbled streets. I am afraid that's all I remember but it is regarded as a very beautiful part of the world.

spend a week in at lake garda myself .as hgrove says sirmione is highly recommended.. you can get to verona and venice ,well worth a visit..take a boat ride on the lake, just chill out

You can also get to Pisa easily. Beautifull place, went there on my honeymoon. We stayed in Riva, right at the North end of the lake and it was fantastic.

Wonderful place - definitely get to Venice & Verona.  Take a trip around the Lake - just catch the ferry & hop on & off.  Malcesine is good - you can take a cable car to the top of the mountain.  Good markets in both Bardolino & Garda - well worth poking about in.  Also when we were there they had open air concerts in the square in the centre of Bardolino. Sit outside & listen to the music - heavenly!!!  I'm jealous now - want to go back.
You can hire pushbikes, take the up the mountain on the cable car and cycle down.  Starts off a bit gravelly but then goes onto proper roads and then roads through villages.  Only horrible bit is road leading back to lake is quite busy with traffic and a few trucks.   But well worth it.
