I would think it would depend on the airline and the destination....best to ask them.

I`m sorry to hear of your situation. If you have a suitcase in the hold and I was you, I would personally put the ashes in your suitcase. You could take them in your hand baggage but it could be quite distressing if you are challenged on this. I have worked on many aircraft where we have human remains in the hold.

Each airline will have its own rules.

Putting it in the hold baggage might be emotionally unwise - imagine if they lost the case.

DT Reported. Very insensitive.

i'm with hopkirk on this, you'd probably be best sticking them in a bag through hand luggage. try calling the airline before you set out and explain to them what your intentions are to get a proper answer.

Thanks LoftyLottie - there's always at least one idiot on any page!
To the sensible responders - thanks very much I'll contact the airline in the first instance. Cheers |

speak to the airline is your best bet, at least you know 100% where you stand then, doubt many people will know on here or find it difficult to get an answer as its probably an unusual request.

Bigfella - In answer to to your problem, you can transport your mum`s ashes. Give the airline a quick ring to see whether they advise puttint the ashes in your hand baggage or your hold bags. Either way, it won`t be a problem

To echo (some of) the other responses, get in touch with the carrier and explain your query. I'm sure they will be very helpful to you.

DT,
I wonder how you would feel if someone answered your post about someone you loved. Get back into your RAT hole! |

I`ve been flying for 25+ years. Trust me if there is a problem I would have heard about it. There isn`t though so don`t worry. Just contact your airline for details.
