Perhaps their popularity dropped when security regulations were introduced limiting the size of your cabin baggage to 56cm x 45cm x 25cm, together with (until January of this year) a strict 'one bag only' policy?

There are no dimensions quoted here (so I can't be sure that it would fit into your bag) but this might help:

I don't think that taking extra luggage like portable steps is neccessary. The first thing is to make sure you have booked a flight with extra leg room, unless you are with thomson which already gives plenty of leg room in standard seats.Excercise your legs by stretching your toes forward and back ,keep heels on floor and raise toes then keep toes on floor and raise heels also take a walk up and down the seat aisle occasionally.Hope this helps .have a good holiday.

And don't forget to wear flight socks.

You can still buy portable steppers. They are inflatable and have 2 sections with a join in the centre, one side for each foot and can 'step' on it like I think you are describing?
Marks & Spencer sell them (they have a small travel accessories range) usually near ladies toiletries/gifts.
Boots also seel something similar which they also suggest can be used as a back pillow/support.

From memory they are about £5
