Has anyone here done this trip and if so how difficult was it? how do I get visa's and paperwork to get my little car into Marmaris and stay 6 months to tour the country? Which route is best one to take?

Sorry, I can't help much but (since nobody else seems to be answering) I'll try to get you started.

ViaMichelin is a superb route-planning site. I've just entered 'London to Marmaris' and the route given is via France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia and Bulgaria. The total driving time is given as around 39 hours, covering 3555 km. (2209 miles).

A tourist visa for Turkey is normally only valid for a maximum of 3 months:

I suggest that you should contact the Turkish Consulate, or the Turkish Culture and Tourism Office, to seek advice about whether it's possible to obtain a visa for a longer period. Contact details for both are here:

Done the route by train - if you can avoid Romania life will be easier and more pleasant. Once east of Hungary the sheer enjoyment taken in mutliple stampings of passports and visas has t be seen to be believed. You will just buy a turkey visa at whichever border post you dive in through, as I recall they preferred sterling or dollars to any other cash.
There ae any number of routes, bu take Foreign Office advice if you anticipate going through Serbia etc

Another alternative is to drive to Italy and get the ferry (with the car) from Ancona to Cesme/Izmir in Turkey. It takes a couple of days & you could have a relaxing cruise. Some details here

You can pay for a visa on arrival and last time I was in Turkey it was £10 which i paid in sterling (not Scottish notes). it's for three months and they do check so most people do an overnight trip to one of the Greek islands and come back. From Marmaris it's very easy to get to Rhodes by ferry. Hope you enjoy the trip it's something I'd love to do. Bon voyage
