The dimlo I live with has put his van keys in the wash. The van won't open at the moment.

Has anyone done the same? Did the key work after drying out properly?

He has 4 people to pick up in the morning...

Has the van door got a manual lock by the door handle.
Youre so rude & why has he got to do the washing? He works hard all week & deserves your tlc.

Dry key fob with hairdryer for him.
Question Author
Yes...the manual lock works but the engine won't start.

He was having a bit of a hissy fit so wasn't very clear :-) He's blaming me...
^^^as tony has said....cars with remote locking have means to lock/unlock manually. Even my "keyless" car has a manual back-up in case of remote malfunction.

Tambo - He's a big boy. He can cope with putting 3 things in the washing machine (except for today)
This may well be wrong... but personally, I would put them in a warm airing cupboard overnight, and hope they dried out.
It's not disabling the immobilizer then has tambo say's, dry it out with the hairdryer.
I've never come across a battery-powered key that doesn't have a back-up method of getting into the vehicle (and usually of starting it too) when the battery in the key is flat. So there ought to be a way to get into the van without using the 'remote' feature.

With my Saab car, for example, I can get into it without using the 'remote' way by pulling the 'traditional' key out of the 'remote' one

and inserting into the lock on the front passenger side. (It sets the alarm off but I can then cancel that by inserting the remote part into the ignition). So perhaps there's something similar on the van?

Make and model, please?
...and, where is the second key that vehicles are supplied with?
Tambo, please tell me you're being satirical.
Ooh! Lots of crossed posts! Sorry!
Question Author
I've wrapped them in kitchen towel and put them on the radiator.

I don't have a hairdryer.
Question Author
Ginge - probably in the office. It's a work van!!
Oh dear...at least it's in a safe place!
No hairdryer then place fob in raw rice
Question Author
Yep...Someone will come out tomorrow with it. He's just worried that the lads will lose a days pay.
Question Author
I do actually own a hair dryer but my sons GF borrowed it.
I would take the battery out & preferably fit a new one when it's all dried out.
Question Author
His boss will do that. It's just work tomorrow. Don't show up and you don't get paid. He's fine with that, not sure the lads will be though.
