I have spent the last few days trying to book a UK self-catering holiday for next June. Every property I look is fully booked, not just in June but all summer.
I've looked at all price brackets in different areas. So disappointing

it hasn't hit home yet, just wait and see.
many people are being supported by way of Cost of Living payments, winter fuel allowances and sundry other payments. This will help for a while. But the crash is going to come, mark my words.
People might be downgrading from more expensive holidays. The demand for UK self catering holidays might therefore be increasing.

I'm looking at properties that are renting at £1200 per week, it would be cheaper to go to a hotel on the Costas
indeed Hoppy, many who might have gone to the Med or beyond may not be able to afford it now.
people are going self-catering cos they don't want to share a hotel with a bunch of Albanians
If the £1200 self catering sleeps 6 people that's only £200pp. You would struggle to go abroad for that.

This is for two people, dave
that is expensive then Barry. Keep trying is all i can suggest.
Perhaps people are put off the Costas after seeing nightmare airport scenes on the news this last summer.
Davebro @ 7:38 has a good point.

Hotels are cancelling peoples booking in favour of housing illegal immigrants, this will have the unfortunate knock on effect to other hotels who dont as the general public will not trust the hotel industry.

Also, if you take out thousands of rooms across the country it stands to reason the people who would have booked them will need to book somewhere else.
Twelve hundred quid, eh.
Have you considered the scenic Welsh valleys, sir.
Especially delightful in whatever month you said you wanted to go.
My niece & her hubby stayed at the Grand Hotel in Scarborough recently. She said some migrants (Afghans?) were being housed there but seemed to be kept separate from the paying guests.

The Grand Hotel - is that one of the Britannia Hotels?

I've been looking at Wales, Spicerack.
// some migrants (Afghans?) were being housed there but seemed to be kept separate from the paying guests //

Only a matter of time before full rapprochement is achieved :-)
I've never been to a Britannia Hotel, but I read it has been voted, as it has for many years, the worst hotel chain there is.
//The Grand Hotel - is that one of the Britannia Hotels?//

Yes it is. My niece enjoyed her stay there.

Khandro, I've never stayed at one either, but am aware of the reputation. There are two large Britannia hotels not far from me and they are shockingly bad. Britannia also owns Pontins.
barry: one of the reviews said of its cleanliness, you need to wipe your feet on the way OUT!
you wouldnt get a week in the summer in the costas for 2 people for £1200 any more. £1200 each perhaps
