Banana Car.

Basically whenever you see a yellow vehicle (not including motor bikes) or a mainly yellow vehicle (i.e. van/lorry needs the whole of the back portion to be yellow) you shout out banana car and punch the other person.  Then keep count.  Kept me and my boyfriend amused on EVERY journey in the year and a half I've been with him!  Also EDDIE where you shout out Eddie if you see an Eddie Stobart lorry but unfortunately I don't think Eddie Stobart lorries exsist in California!

Make up pub names:

For example, you choose an animal, and you man can choose an object.  You might say hedgehog, he might say bucket - The Hedgehog and Bucket.

You can come up with very funny names.

Animal fights:

Discuss who would win a fight between animals, eg, a crab and a squirrel.

This one is better when you're drunk, but can still be enjoyed sober.

when driving around New Zealand, my bf and I had a pretty geeky way to keep us entertained - but hey maybe you're like us!  We learned the names and dates of all the monarchs of England... and also the US states and their capitals.  (the latter might be more useful in california!).  I know it is sad, but it kept us amused and now on pub quizzes it comes in very handy.
I hope he will ALWAYS be driving if you don't have a licence!

Whats the chances of getting caught If I don't have a license on say those long open roads? Bearing in mind that we have tinted windows and if we're stopped then we just switch over.
Those mirror-sunglasses wearing US traffic cops are famous for their anything-goes sense of humour and relaxed manner. A great game to play on the road is this. When you spot one in your rear-view, speed up and then violently spin the car round, bringing it to stop so that it blocks the road. You and your mates then leap out the car, armed with fake guns, and shout 'You wanna some of this do you, huh!?'. Laughter all round, I can assure.

as a native californian, I would advise you to NOT tempt fate and mess with the CHP. They are not known for their sense of humour. or good sense for that matter. in any case, kick back and relax, let your feet dangle out the window and let the BF drive.

games? 'punch buggy' - i.e. your BF gets a sock in the arm whenever you see a Volks. Bug. Fun for all.

"Who Am I" is good.  One of you chooses a person and the other has twenty questions to work out who it is by asking questions that can only have a 'yes' or 'no' answer i.e. 'are you alive' 'are you female' 'were you famous' etc. etc.
