On my home computer my screen has gone dead. When I first boot it up it's fine, then once Welcome comes up it just goes dead. Can anybody help? I've tried pressing the F8 key to get the menu up but it only stays on a second or two then goes off and I'm back to the black screen.

Thanks for answering tamborine, that's what I've done but a menu pops up and only stays on a second then goes off
Sounds like a hardware problem ? Are all the cables connected correctly ? I presume its not a laptop with flat battery.

Not a laptop, no. If it were a connection problem it wouldn't work at all would it?
Do you have another monitor you could substitute .......... to rule that out?
Question Author
All I've got is my PC (screen plus tower) and a laptop (which I'm using to send this!)
You could try connecting the monitor to the laptop ................ some laptops have the facility to plug a standard monitor in.
try this :

1) Restart your PC

2) Logon and wait for the black screen to appear

3) Make sure your PC should be able to connect to the internet (black screen does not appear to affect this)

4) Press the CTRL, ALT and DEL keys simultaneously

5) When prompted, Click Start Task Manager

6) In Task Manager Click on the Application Tab

7) Next Click New Task

8) Now enter the command:

"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" "http://info.prevx.com/download.asp?GRAB=BLAC
KSCREENFIX"

Thank you for that Tamborine but tried it and nothing comes up when I press CTRL ALT & DEL keys so can't go any further. It'll be a case of calling out the computer doctor tomorrow and hope he can sort it out quickly. Thank you so much for your help it's very much appreciated.
Try reloading your windows disk. Insert the disk & boot up.
