are digital tv recorders worth buying? I want to record+watch another channel at same time.

yes but I think that you answered your own question. If that is what you want to do, it is worth buying one.

I dont have one as I get a PVR (same thing) within my Sky+ box so if you have one of those then dont buy another box that does the same thing.

If your terrestrial or satellite receiver has twin tuners and a USB output then you can used an external hard drive as a recorder. You can get a 1 terabyte HD for under £50 and you can also use it with your PC if you want to.
