i have just downloaded skpype so that i can speak to my friend in turkey. every time i open it i'm asked to install a plug-in for bt stackserver. do i need this? is it safe and legit?

It's safe and legit. Do you need it? Only if you want to use a skype-aware bluetooth headset with skype.
