How do I transfer photos & itunes tracks from old to new laptop

Hi friends!

I have tried using a spare SATA hard drive I have, but can't get it to work. Also tried using my 30Gb ipod (it's a few years old now) and that doesn't work either.

Help!!!! Please! I'm not computer savvy, but I'm not a total beginner.

Would you care to explain how you tried to use this? I presume with a USB caddy?

Will a USB transfer cable work - are they really that easy to do this with?

Yes that's right chuck, I got one a while back from the local computer shop - they said 'it's really easy to do' !!!
