My washer-dryer has just conked on me.  The wash facility works fine but the dryer does'nt, when u put the cycle on the machine makes a whiring sound (quiter than when it worked) and spins as it should but the clothes come out as damp as when they went in.  I spent 140 6 months ago getting the bearings fixed so I need to know if its viable to get this done.  If anybody know what the problem may be and how much its going to hurt, I'd be grateful to know.

check your filter isn't choked. this should be done every month. It's situated at the front bottom of the machine behind a small hatch. Make sure the machine is empty before taking it off

Sounds like you could have lost the dryer fan or the heater element for the dryer. It may be the filter but if the water empties out ok then it probably is not. Washer dryers are a bit of a compromise, and it is easy to spend loads on repairs. Do not be afraid to buy a new one as it may be cheaper in the long run. Better still if you can find somewhere to keep a separate dryer keep the machine and just wash in it. I found a good web site a few months back http://www.discount-appliances.co.uk they were very reasonable and helpful. I saved quite a lot on an AEG dishwasher.
