I think my computer's got a virus. Whn using the Internet it keeps on disconnecting itself. Often when I try to dial my ISP again once it's disconnected I keep on getting an error message saying the number can't be dialled because the port is already open. However, I can still get a dial tone on my phone and dial numbers on the phone when it does this.

Obviously I'll need to get some sort of anti-virus programme so any recommnedations for the best one would be appreciated.

In the meantime, is there anyway I can 'close' the modem port on the computer so I can redial my ISP.

Thanks in advance

always found that shutting down the computer and then rebooting will close the port allowing you to reopen it when you next dial up...i had this problem for ages...solved it by getting broadband

We have Grisoft AVG Free Edition cover. It seems to be doing its job ok.

Go to www.lavasoft.de, download free version of ad-aware, run it.  Also try "hijackthis" available from any shareware site, also the Cool Web Shredder "cwshredder".  They should be able to remove most bugs in your system!
