the aperture will not move automatically from f2.8 but can be moved manually . Any help would be gratefully received.

Have you tried setting ISO at highest value?

If low light level and low ISO setting aperture will stay at max.

magicmerlin is correct. Can you set the shutter speed? If so a slower shutter speed should close the aperture to f4 or f5.6.
