Unless your DVD/VCR Combi has an integrated Freeview Tuner then all you will be able to record will be the Channel you are watching. My own DVD has inbuilt Freeview and is tuned in the same order as the TV

i was hoping that one could connect abox to it ,but it now looks as if i have to buy a new recorder.
Your VCR/DVD combo will have a built in TV tuner.

If it is say 4 or 5 years old it will probably be an analogue tuner (you dont say).

If it is newer it will probably have a Freeview tuner.

If it is only a Analogue tuner I dont think you can convert it to a freeview tuner.

If the vcr/dvd HAS got a freeview tuner in it then you WILL be able to record from that freeview tuner.
hummel: as redman says, it can't be converted.

However, I see no reason why you can't buy a freeview box and connect it via scart cable to your recorder. Select it as the recording device, and it should record whatever the freeview box shows.
