Transfering a SIM card

My wife no longer wants her current mobile phone. Can I simply transfer the SIM card from my phone to her phone, we are both Orange PAYG customers? Presumably I need to contact Orange and ask then to transfer the account to my name?

Yes you can just put your sim in her phone.... No you don' need to inform orange. your account is the sim card, not the phone.
