DVD Full screen viewing

Some DVDs i play on my Computer will play full screen on my DVD player, others (not copies)play with a thick black line top and bottom,even though in full screen mode.I use an Apple iMac osx 10.3.
prev Type a Word Document and leave no trace on machine.

The ones with the black areas top and bottom are Widescreen movies.
