Does anybody know how i can update them because i recently bought the sims 2 and it doesn't work properly eventhough my old one (the sims) did. On the back of the box it says it needs a version 9.0 but i dont know what that means. If you can update it how much does it cost?

You'll need a DX9 video card (about 40). Sound should be fine and won't need updating. You'll have to check if you have a AGP slot on your motherboard first of all. You'll either have to open the case and have a look for a brown slot or look up your motherboard on the net (if you know what model it is). If you don't have an AGP slot, you'll need a PCI graphics card which would be about 60.
I appears the Sims 2 needs DirectX version 9.0. Have you downloaded and installed DirectX 9.0? You can download it here: http://www.microsoft.com/dow nloads/details.aspx?********=0a9b6820-bfbb-4799-9908-d418 cdeac197&displaylang=en If it still doesn't work then get a new video card as scatman rightly points out.
well the missing bit is famil  with diy spelt backwards. In other words the ID of the family. I think the profanity filter has problems with backwards spelt diy and hsiddiy despite being legitimate words.

Last time I had a similar problem with a game I had to go to the website of my video card manufacturer and update the drivers, no cost at all.

As for the DirectX9 in my experience the version of DirectX required to play the game is usually on the CD-ROM anyway and you are usually prompted by the game as to whether or not you want to install it.
