You have several options open to you,
1. Buy a dvd recorder with or without a HDD. you will be able to record Sky as an external source but you wont have access to series link or the Sky planner/ EPG via the recorder. You won't be able to record more than one Sky channel at a time and you won't be able to watch one Sky channel and record another at the same time

2. Buy a Freesat PVR these are still very new (and expensive 200 + for an HD model) as Freesat only launched in May this year. Won't give you access to any Sky channels but you will get an EPG with series link and providing you install a twin LNB on your dish can watch / record two satellite channels at once. Good thing is it doesn't need a subscription either.

3. Buy a Freeview twin tuner PVR again no access to Sky but will record 2 channels at once, series link and no messing with your LNB and no subcription.
