i'm thinking of upgrading to sky hd - from sky + and wondered why sky can justify a 30 installation charge -surely it's just a case of unplugging the old sky + box and plugging in the new hd box ??? anyone on here upgraded ? i remember when i upgraded to sky + there was quite a bit of work involved as the engineer had to run another cable from the dish to the box ,but i don't think this is the case with sky hd

New Quad LNB on the dish and an extra cable run to the box so both the tuners in the + box can work
oppp, sorry, read it the wrong way round.
I did just what you suggest - replaced my Sky+ box with a Sky HD box bought privately. Connecting is easy - just plug it in. All you have to do then is ring up Sky and tell them to re-register your Sky account for the new box (you'll need the serial number). If you don't do that, Sky+ won't work and you won't get all the free-to-air channels (eg. Channel 4 HD). Note that once this is done you will get BBC HD, Channel 4 HD, etc. - you don't need a Sky HD subscription unless you want HD on Sky channels you subscribe to.
