Java wants details off my pc?

I was doing a java update and it said I had to agree to some sort a registration and they had to take some information off my pc and it was routine?? It said you could go to their website to change these 'exchange of info' rules, but other than that it said you had to agree to them taking information to complete the update.

Is this normal and safe esp as I have outbound firewall problems at the moment. Thanks in advance

It would be really helpful if you could be a little more precise like : What information did it want, which web site did it mention?

It says:

Welcome to Jave and JavaFX

As part of the installation and update process some non-personal information is sent to Sun to help us with our performance. For more details, including how to disable this transfer see http://java.com/data

You must except the licence agreement by clicking the accept button below to dowload the product

Yea it'll be fine.

Sun is a pretty decent company.

Just a shame they have all this stuff with Java; it shouldn't be seen by any regular user anyway!

Yeah, if you'd followed the link you posted and read the page, you would have seen that the stuff it sends is completely non-personal, and just helps them to understand what processes are taking place.
