Broadband and Phone line

I have connected a new computer today, using the same cables etc as were used on the old hard drive. The broadband is working fine but we can not get the land line to work unless we unplug the phone line into the pc.

There are 2 telephone sockets and I have filters on both. The telephone nearest the pc has the pc and a phone line running into it. The 2nd one connects a phone and the Sky.

I have tried putting a splitter in as well but still can't get the phone line!!

Please help it is driving me mad!!! :)

Why are you plugging your phone line into your PC?

I'm a Little confused...

how are you getting broadband, do you have an external router or modem that you use. if so then unless you use your PC for sending or receiving faxes then there is no need to have your computer it's self connected to the phone line.

The router or modem do need to be connected to the phone line and then they are connected computer

it's not the old phone line into the second ethernet card is it?

an rj11 fits into an rj45 socket (just has a ikkle gap at the sides)

if the old pc had a modem .....

this is getting worse

is the cable usb or ethernet?
(if it's a modem it's probably usb)
so filter in socket on skirting - phone plugs into filter
(phone plug has ikkle lever on narrow edge to lock it)

filter to modem using thin cable with rj11 plugs
