My mate, had a gas fitter to service his boiler and issue a certificate cos he rents the place out. The fitter called him and said " The pump has gone it wil be 180 " My mate told him he would keep the old pump get it working and use it as a back up. An hour later the fitter called again telling him he has mended the pump and issued the safety certificate and it will be 70 instead.
There was obviously nothing wrong with the pump.
Well done my mate, good job he wasn't a vulrenable!

And your point is........?
I know they do i have been a builder for 30 years, but my mate isn't, he just had enough sense to do what he did and call the mans bluff.
That is my point.
you wouldn't get such problems with a female plumber ;o)
I hope your mate checked the guy was Certified Corgi Reg, or his insurance may not be valid xx

No sara, if it was a female plumber, it would be a different set of problems. Probably have to wait for her to remove all her nails before she started, and when she had finished choosing which of her 17 pink caps to wear that matched here prada overalls, she would have refused to do it anyway because "there is a spider in there"
=o)

Had you again Sara!!!!!
You cant issue a safety certificate unless corgi registered.
So id assume hed covered that possibility ?

Yes, all booked and belted, but this feller missed out.
I have 14 properties i would have used him on, until this!
Aaw! Is there any way you could let him know that? How satisfying that would be! xx

I expect he will contact the tenant, a friend of his, who i imagine was in on it "Tell the Landlord 180, he will never know" and it will filter through.
They are hard to get, gas fitters, as are most tradesmen nowadays, that is why they charge so much.
My landlord is a gas fitter by trade,he isn't Corgi registered any more though so usually gets his old mates to do any boiler work etc. That said though he hasn't had our boiler serviced for 3 years now!

I'd keep your windows open if i were you.
I'm afraid that sort of thing is not uncommon in a lot of trades.

In my previous day as a washing machine engineer I had several arguments with my boss as he would tell me to replace pumps on machines when all was wrong with them was a coin or similar blocking them. He would then remove the blockage and clean the pump and that would be put on the next machine as the "new" pump

So not only was he replacing pumps that didn't need it the "new" pump wasn't even new!!

I left that job as i refused to do that to people!

If any engineer says they have to replace a part then it is a good idea to watch them doing it to ensure they really have replaced the part and so you can see the part is really new (ask to inspect it if needed, your paying for it so why shouldn't you look at it!) and also insist on keeping the old part (the old part belongs to you so why shouldn't you keep it!)
