When I visit a previously viewev site, I often get an old page image. There is no consistency to when this happens, or how old the image is, it may be 1 -4 days old, and not always the last image I viewed, but one previously. Refreshing is not an automatic cure, it works eventually half the time. I assume I need to change some settings - which ones?

You've not stated which browser you're using.
This applies to IE6. (IE7 is probably similar):
Go to Tools > Internet Options > General (tab)
Under 'Temporary Internet Files', click 'Settings'.
Then decide on your preference for 'check for newer versions of stored pages'. Click 'OK' twice.

Thanks for your reply. I am using IE6, and I have tried both the 'automatically' and the 'every visit' option, and it is still playing up. It is now showing the BBC news from Wednesday, earlier I at least got Friday news. I hope to read Sunday's news by Tuesday!

chris is on the nail - surprised it hasn't worked
I always go for the every visit option ... with BBand it takes no extra time.
try emptying the temp folder
(tools | options)
try increasing the cache to <300Mb (don't go mad - 350-400 tops) - the bbc is a big bulky site
(i've used up to 800 on some company sites running sales databases).
ccleaner is a good general "housekeeper"
http://www.ccleaner.com/download
check your disk for errors and defrag once in a while
none of this may actually be the cause ... but if your system is more than a few months old - it's surprising how the rubbish mounts

Try holding shift and F5 when you are on a website. This will force a refresh and is a temporary fix until you get it sorted.

You are seeing a cached version of the site. Try this fix as well:
In a browser window go to Tools > Internet Options. On the General tab, make sure the "days to keep in history" is set to 0. This will clear the cache every night

Thanks for the suggestions, I have tried them all and it is still going on. I have noticed a difference that it happens at home, but not when I log on elsewhere.
