My friend is selling his Olympus C765Z camera for 50 and I may buy it as it as a good optical zoom, but I would like to know if there are similar cameras for an acceptable price out there? I cant find much info on this model as it seems to be out of production. I think it may be from 2004.
Perhaps Buenchico can shed some light on it? Thanks in advance to anyone tha tackles my question.

Hi, Filthiestfis

I've struggled to find any meaningful reference to this camera on the web. My usual advice, when posters ask questions about digital cameras, is to put a good quality optical zoom ahead of (largely unnecessary) megapixels. Olympus is a good brand but I can't find out the specification of the lens. (My own camera has a 10x optical zoom. I'd expect to be looking for something fairly similar in any camera I'd recommend. If it's less than 5x I'd forget about it).

All I can say is that if the camera offers at least 3 megapixels, comes with a decent optical zoom and has the handbook with it, I'd be tempted to buy it at that price.

If this is it, it first went on sale in 2004 and is now out of production.

It has a 10x optical zoom

Thank you Chris. I did indeed check the web and could not find anything meaningful either but what I do know is that it has a 10x optical zoom, and thats precisely what I'm looking for. I'm sick of taking crappy shots with my Sony P93 which has just x3 optical zoom.
My friend just upgraded to a newer camera and this is his third one, he has kept it in great condition and he claims that technically there is nothing wrong with it, and I believe him.

Yes that's it Ethel :D
Hurrah! Hopefully Buenchico will give his verdict now the specs are there.

:)

hey filthy
If you don't buy it I will
10x optical zoom !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
4Mp .... no one NEEDS more that 4 unless you intend to decorate the outside of your house with your fizz

hopefully bu will resurface but in the meantime
couple of reservations

rechargable battery .... they don't last for ever but ....

..... they don't cost that much either!

xD picture card ....
(I have a fuji - so you have my sympathies)
the spec says up to 521Mb .... make certain bigger will work if you decide to increase your storage.

get a card reader .... that way there won't be problems if vista is involved

ACtheTroll: what the hell was that video? That man is gross!
You know, I have found cameras with x10 optical zoom from 79.99 on pricerunner.co.uk
Maybe you wanna check that AC?
I wouldn't mind a spare camera so, if you don't buy it Filthistfis, I might be fighting with AC ;-)

My own preference is for cameras which use AA batteries because (as long as you're close to some shops), you never need to worry about running out of charge. All the same, it's still a good camera.
