Is there any way of avoiding logging in each time I want to use e-mail (Tiscali) on my home computer. There is no chance of anyone else using my computer, so that is not a problem.

From the way your post reads, I assume that you're using web-based mail. Despite companies like Tiscali promoting their web-based email services, these are never as good as using a dedicated email client (such as Outlook, Outlook Express or Thunderbird). The only time that web-based services are really useful is when you want to access your mail while you're away from home. (e.g. from an internet café).
So switch to using a proper email client and you'll never have to bother logging in again. Most people have Outlook Express on their PCs, so all you need to do is to configure it to send and receive your mail. That's dead easy. See here:

Very useful link, thank you, Chris. I have got Outlook Express e-mail, but prefer Tiscali, although the password typing is a nuisance.

Thanks for the reply. Which browser are you using? I use Firefox, which asks me if I want it to remember passwords. So, for example, if my username on a particular site is 'cleverclogs', I just type in 'c' and find that my username and password are both automatically completed:
