what software to use with a vid camera(editing and so on)

Hi just bought a sony hdd handycam and was wondering what i would need to be able to put songs on the vids i have taken.Also to edit things out of what i have taken.
Any help would be great thanks.

Assuming you have an XP (Service Pack 1 or later - if not, update it to the current SP3) or Vista machine, Windows Movie Maker is built-in and will do what you want - you just need to get the footage off your camera and on to your PC. Remember to save often as (on XP at least) it does crash/hang from time to time. Also your CD/DVD burning software will quite often include an editing type program.
