hard disk problems

My hard disk is running very slow. i tested it and got 30Mb per second! Its a normal IDE 7200 rpm. The only program i have in the background is norton internet security, its fully defragged, and has no errors. any ideas, anyone? all chipset drivers are installed as well.

how old is it ? mine was 3 yrs old and was running approx same speed as yours.ive now bought a new drive which runs twice as fast

Probly about 3 years. Do they generally wear out then? I do need quite a fast disc.
