there is an option in outlook express which is "hang up when finished" your computer is checking for mails and then disconnecting when done. To change setting click send and receive and when the box pops up press stop straight away. This will give you a chance to untick the little box beside "hang up when finished"

Thanks for trying but that is not the problem, the box was unticked and besides, I never had this problem initially. Also the messages I recieve, if at all, are duplicate. It is soooo annoying. :(
I have found in the past that a number of things can cause this. Large volume of email which causes the ISP to terminate your connection because they suspect you are spamming (this can be the case if you have a virus (netsky i think)). Check with your ISP. or Your email server timing out because norton (or other AV) is checking a large email with a virus in it. There is a 'time out after x mins' setting in OE. Try upping that. or Try checking your ntl mail on the web and see if anything looks suspicious and could be a virus/very large/causing a problem. Deleting email via webmail will sometimes allow outlook to carry on where it left off.
