Playstation 1 games on Playstation 2

I can play some of my old PS1 games on my PS2 but I don't seem able to save them.
When I try to save, a message appears saying that there is no memory card in slot 1, even though there is!

Any ideas?

i may be wrong but dont you need a ps1 mem card, or have you checked that the memory card fully in the whole,

Yes you have to use a ps1 card.
